THE TEMPEST were formed early 1983 in Northampton from the ashes of Glass recording acts RELIGIOUS OVERDOSE and WHERES LISSE. Their debut single “Lady Left This” was released later that year, unsurprisingly, also on Glass Records and met with favourable reviews, which led to them being quickly snapped up by Anagram Records, releasing the indie chart hit “Montezuma”
Their upbeat, guitar and percussion based post-punk drew regular plays by KID JENSEN and JOHN PEEL on their BBC Radio 1 shows which culminated in a KID JENSEN RADIO 1 session. On Radio 1’s Roundtable “STEVE STRANGE said that “This is the sound of 1984”
After being Invited on tour with fellow Northampton band and good friends BAUHAUS. There Followed a whirlwind of gigs, that included STRAWBERRY SWITCHBLADE , IN EMBRACE, JAZZ BUTCHER, BENJAMIN ZEPHANIAH, ALIEN SEX FIEND, SKELETAL FAMILY and QUANDO QUANGO
The storm blew out in 1984 with the band breaking up before the albums release.
